Canby Civic Block
The heart of the historic
Downtown Canby
In the heart of Historic Downtown Canby is a new gathering place – one that celebrates the community’s history and creates the setting for its next chapter.
The Block, a redevelopment effort led by Hanlon Development in collaboration with the City of Canby, includes:
The Canby Dahlia, which has 69 apartment units, both studios and one-bedrooms, and is 100% leased with a few units turning over each month. The retail spaces are 100% leased, housing Wayward Sandwiches, B’s Bakery, Therapeutic Associates and Little Loves Children’s Consignment.
Canby’s Historic City Hall, which was a beautiful Work Progress Administration building and was completely remodeled at the end of 2022. Cones Ice Cream is now open in the old fire house garage.
The Old Police Building, which is a timeless building with exposed red brick, old-growth wooden beams, and large storefront windows, was renovated and updated in early 2023. It now stands ready for a full remodel into a restaurant, brew pub, or retail location. The beautiful Dahlia Mural is on the east side of this building.
The Canby Utility Building is a well-designed building that has been repurposed into Nonnie’s Village Daycare.
Designed by Portland-based SERA Architects, each retail space in the Canby Civic Block was positioned to draw foot traffic and build upon the strengths of Canby’s vibrant town center.
Downtown Canby has plenty to offer both residents and visitors, including street festivals, a movie theater, weekly events at the fairgrounds, and locally-owned shops and restaurants. Canby’s identity as a complete community has been bolstered by the construction of a new library and city hall and over $2 million in public investment to add new landscaping and public art downtown, improve street safety, and make walking and biking safer and more comfortable.
With The Dahlia complete and the construction of The Garden underway, The Block is already contributing to Canby’s reputation as a welcoming and vibrant place to live, work and raise a family.

Portland’s Hottest ‘Hoods
“For a slice of the quieter life, consider Canby. Near the confluence of the Willamette and Molalla Rivers, residents of this burg of 17,000 tend to hold on to their homes. Which might just have something to do with boasting the metro area’s lowest crime rate, highest suburban Walk Score, and a stable population that saw a comparatively cheer-worthy $3K bump in median household income last year.”
